Unusual wilderness scenes make me curious about what happened to create the landscape I see before me. In my attempts to answer these questions, I feel a bit like an explorer and historian, seeking out evidence to explain nature behaving out of the ordinary. This photograph came out of stumbling across a place in the river that looked unnatural with all of the dead trees standing in the water. After bushwhacking around the area, I discovered an uprooted tree that had fallen, taking several other down with it. These trees created a natural dam across a section of the river, which created the water to pool into a natural valley depression, drowning the trees.
