Sunset from Olympic Moutains

kenneth moriarty February 16, 2016

Darkness grows in the valley 5,000 ft. below me casting shadows on the Hoh River. The broken soft reflections of remaining light illuminates various parts of the river that heads from the Olympic Mountains into the sea. Far off to the west, the marine layered fog separates the vast horizon between the dull gray clouds and the magnificent pink sunset. A mountainous ridge line juts up to the sky; cutting into the sunset with its' peaks. To my back, Mt. Olympus is illuminated by alpenglow, highlighting the crevasses and glaciated mountainside. Peacefully, the crescent moon sits overhead allowing itself to be kissed by the last rays of the setting sun. The first stars appear overhead sparkling in the dark blue sky of the east. The night grows majestic.
